There’s no one better at cutting paper than London-based artist Rob Ryan. His work is a beautiful combination of simple story-telling and a revival of the traditional mexican folk art form known as papel picado. In fact, I’d venture to say that he evolved this historic art into modern times single-handedly.

Take a moment to indulge the diversity of Rob’s visual wizardry on his frequently updated blog. I just can’t get over the variety and quantity of Rob’s work available online for browsing. Celestial scarf, anyone? Make sure you don’t miss his etsy shop too. You can buy something unique, or his popular book, This Is For You.

So, I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions, but at the turn of the year, I found myself drawing and contemplating this: {be} silent and listen {more}.
I’m constantly consuming information on the internet. I find that it takes real will power to unplug from information overload, and create some silence with which I can listen and contemplate within. So I made this piece to remind me to do just that.
Using the same 6 letters (E,S,I,N,T,L), I illustrated these two words together in a series of 2-letter monograms. The intertwining quality really enhanced the message, and struck me with a lasting impression or mantra.
A week later, I found out that other designers were submitting to a collection of resolutions hosted by Chris Streger’s Motherland Blog, and he agreed to add mine to the mix. They’re all mobile wallpapers for download, and you can grab mine here.
Here’s to beginning my new blog in 2011. Make sure to check back here as I plan to post a variety of: thoughts, inspiration, new project launches, ideas, and more. This is going to be great fun.
